Screw rankings, we'll settle it on the mat.

Blair Academy has owned the #1 spot in the rankings like Ohio State's Jim Tressel owns Michigan's Llyod Carr in college football. But, that might change in 2007. St. Edward outscored the Bucs in last weekends Ironman individual tournament. With St. Edward leaving th Beast of the East so they can start up their own dual meet tournament, Blair will be the heavy favorite for this weekends even held at the University of Delaware.

Everything will be fine come February 3, when Blair will head to Lakewood, Ohio to dual with St. Edward. It is just under 2 months away, but the avid wrestling fan just can't wait. Ranking teams in mid-December is like crowning the Kentuckey Derby winner after only a 1/4 mile. We have a long way to go and teams mature greatly over 2 months, come February, these teams will be in top shape and have all the technicalities worked out of their system. Blair still has the Beast of the East, the Bethlehem Hurrican Classic, Final Four of Wrestling featuring Easton, Nazareth, Hermiston, Oregon, and Bishop Lynch. They also visit the Konkrete Duals held in Northampton at the end of January.

St. Edward will wrestle Camden Catholic this weekend and a championship match-up with either Oak Park or St. Paris in their Super 8 Duals.
The Ironman was held this past weekend at Walsh Jesuit HS in Ohio and showed us why this is the toughest wrestling tournament in the country. With all do respect to the Beast of the East and Reno Tournament of Champions, the Walsh Ironman featured many of the nations top teams and wrestlers. Some of the top wrestlers fell and some did not even place!!!

The Ironman featured top teams such as: Blair Academy, St. Edward, St. Paris, Montini Catholic, Christiansburg, Caesar Rodney, Glenbard North, and so many more. Bob Preusse, the seeding director, put together a great group of teams and also individuals.

At 103, David Taylor of St. Paris won his second straight title defeating freshman Logan Steiber of Monroeville. Glenbard North sophomore Tony Ramos won a tight match at 112 besting Blair's Chris Villalonga. With a loaded 119 weight class, Upper Perkiomen's Chris Sheetz came out on top beating Ohio State signee Nikko Triggas of Campolindo.

125 did not dissapoint either with some of the best wrestlers in the nation at this weight. Fremont, California's Boris Novachkov, a runner-up in 2005 at 103, defeated Canon-McMillan junior Colin Johnston by fall. 125 also featured two-time PA state champ Troy Dolan, who finished 7th, Blair Academy's Anthony Valles, Daniel Kolodzik from Ohio, St. Edward sophmore Collin Palmer, and Freedom's David Prado.

Kellen Russell looked dominant at times during the weekend winning the 130 weight class by beating Walsh's own Chase Skonieczny by fall. Blair also won at 135 with Max Shanaman winning. Blair had the tri-fecta with Mario Mason winning at 140. This weight class featured national prerp champion Mason, PA state champ and 2005 Ironman champ Zack Kemmerer, who ended up finishing 3rd, St. Edward's Shawn Harris, who finished as the runner-up, and PA's Nick Nelson, a UVA signee.

145 on up will be posted shortly...
